Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Undefeated filly Snitzel’s Jewel is gearing up for her second run this time in on Saturday ahead of a Sydney spring campaign that could see her aimed at the Silver Shadow Stakes 2013 late next month.
A nicely-bred daughter of Snitzel, rising three-year-old Snitzel’s Jewel has won both of her starts to date and trainer Gerald Ryan is hopeful she can make it a trifecta this weekend when she runs second-up at Rosehill Gardens.
The progressive youngster is nominated for a three-year-olds Benchmark 75 Handicap over 1100m which will be her first look at the prestigious track and her first run over the distance.
Her maiden run was at Gosford back in February over 1000m where she beat home So French by one and a quarter lengths.
After a five month break she returned on July 13 at Warwick Farm and won over the same distance by the same margin with Glyn Schofield aboard again.
Confident with the way she’s progressed Ryan is keen to see how she stacks up against her own kind in this class rise where she could face the likes of the ultra-consistent Al Samer filly Yupik who is after their third on the trot, last start Canterbury winner Dream Forward and the Chris Waller-trained Champagne Cath.
“She’s done really well since her first-up win but this is another step again,” Ryan told AAP.
“Whether she’s good enough, we’ll find out.”
Ryan already has a number of Group targets in his mind for Snitzel’s Jewel should she step up on Saturday with the $125,000 Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) back at Rosehill on August 17 a possibility.
“She’s only a light little thing but if she can perform as she did last time we’ll have a look at the San Domenico two weeks later,” he said.
After that it could then be onto the $175,000 Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on August 24.
“There is also the Silver Shadow against the fillies the week after,” Ryan added.
“I think she can stretch out to 1400 metres but not just yet.”
While Schofield has ridden Snitzel’s Jewel for both her starts to date she will have Brenton Avdulla aboard on Saturday with Schofield engaged to ride rival Champagne Cath.
