2013 July Sprint Tips & Betting Selections

The feature race at Royal Randwick this Saturday is the July Sprint (1200m), which has drawn a quality field of sprinters from right around Australia.

The July Sprint is a very open affair with a stack of horses in single figures so our team of racing experts have analysed the form to come up with the top 2013 July Sprint betting tips.

Pentasia is the favourite in the July Sprint betting market after finishing third behind Youthful Jack in the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m).

The Pentire mare was also victorious in the Listed Chief De Beers Quality (1110m) at Doomben in May and is the most consistent performer over 1200 metres in this field.

Darley gelding Soledad has been well backed in the lead-up to the July Sprint despite only producing a fair performance first-up in the Ramornie Handicap.

The son of Commands has not won a race for over a year and appears well under the odds at his current quote of $6.

Youthful Jack defeated the majority of this field in the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton a fortnight ago but is still well down in betting at the juicy odds of $13.

The rising eight-year-old will carry 59kg on Saturday, a rise of four kilograms from what he carried in the Ramornie, and will jump from the inside barrier so he will need a bit of luck in running if he is going to be successful.

Listed below are the Races.com.au betting tips for the 2013 July Sprint.

#5 Pentasia ($4.50)

Pentasia was very impressive in the Ramornie Handicap, running on well to finish third despite racing wide and without cover for the majority of the race. The rising six-year-old should be able to roll forward, in this race that lacks pace, and be too strong for the rest of the field in the concluding stages. At her current price she is one of the best bets of the day.

#2 See The World $9

See The World has failed to fire in his last two starts but a drop back in distance and the reapplication of blinkers should do him the world of good. The Danzero gelding is another horse that should get a comfortable run and is the best each-way bet in the field.

#9 Funtantes $17

Trainer Robert Heathcote has made the decision to bring Funtantes to Sydney for what could be one of the final starts of her career. Heathcote is very skilled at placing his horses in the right races and he would not have brought the veteran mare to Sydney if he didn’t think she was good enough to win. If she can produce her best form, Funtantes is an excellent chance to run in the top five and is great value to run a place.
