See The World Eyes Randwick Win With Blinkers On

They may have a big weight to overcome but See The World is prime for another city win in Saturday’s $85,000 July Sprint (1200m) according to their trainer Joe Pride who has made a critical gear change for their end of season run.

The rising seven-year-old Danzero gelding is one of 11 sprinters in the July Sprint field at Randwick this weekend, See The World set to get a gun run from gate three with top hoop Nash Rawiller taking the reins.

One of the seven single-figure fancies in the July Sprint odds paying $8 through the horse is after their first win since an impressive three length effort second-up at Rosehill in the Listed Maurcie McCarton Stakes (1100m) back in March.

Their most recent run was a disappointing seventh when beating home just one other runner in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) on July 6, an effort Pride is hoping they can bounce back from.

For that run See The World carried 58kg and they have been handed another hefty weight for the July Sprint set to carry 59kg with weights led by the Bjorn Baker-trained Havana Rey (60.5kg).

But while the kilos are against them there’s still plenty to like about See The World, scratched from last Saturday’s Winter Stakes over the 1400m, who will relish going back to the 1200m.

“I thought he looked better suited back to 1200 (metres),” Pride said.

“He has raced alright at Randwick in the past so hopefully he can do it again.”

In another attempt to sharpen them up Pride will also put the blinkers back on after the horse ran without them in the Civic Stakes and the run before when 11th to Belltone in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben in May.

“He has lost his way a bit since he went to Brisbane,” Pride said.

“I’ve put the blinkers back on. He wore them in the Hall Mark (Stakes) before he went away, I took them off so he would settle over the 1350.”
