2013 Lightning Stakes Final Field Released

A number of Adelaide’s leading two-year-olds and three-year-olds are set to take part in the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday July 27.

Headlining the field is Sam Kavanagh-trained Words Are Weapons who will be relocated interstate after he competes this weekend.

Words Are Weapons (barrier seven) is undefeated from two races starts after an impressive victory at Gawler on debut and a win in the Hamilton Holden Handicap (1000m) at Morphettville on May 25.

The Dubawi filly impressed in a barrier trial over 1000 metres last Monday and is likely to start the race as favourite.

The other undefeated filly in the field is Miss Macarena who scored in the Melbourne Truck Centre Maiden (1016m) at Mornington on debut.

This is a significant step-up in class for the More Than Ready three-year-old but her pedigree suggests that she could be a stakes level performer.

Leon Macdonald-trained Nearest To Pin resumed with a convincing win in the Sportingbet Handicap (1200m) at Morphettville earlier in the month and will jump from barrier nine in the Lightning Stakes with Victoria Derby winning jockey Claire Lindop on board.

The gelding will share top-weight status with the heavily raced Spoilspot, Lloyd Kennewell-trained Heart Of A Lion and Victorian-based Timely Truce.

Thiamandi is the only two-year-old filly among the group of acceptors and will return to Adelaide after finishing seventh behind impressive colt Lord Of The Sky in the Procal Dairies Handicap (1000m) at Caulfield a fortnight ago.

The Street Boss juvenile will carry only 52.5kg in the Listed event and will jump from barrier three.

Raise A Dream, Rubyone and Noisette received no luck in the barrier draw and will jump from the outside gates while Holy Roman Emperor gelding Crabbing will start the race in barrier one.
