The newest recruits of leading Melbourne trainer Mick Price will make their debut for their new stable on Saturday with Anagold and Draw Forward nominated to compete at Caulfield on Saturday.
Draw Forward has been transferred from the stable of Richard Jolly in Adelaide and will have her first run under the care of Price in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) – the final group race of the 2012/2103 racing season – or the Fillies and Mares Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
The rising five-year-old has been a consistent performer in Adelaide and picked up a win in the Sportingbet Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley last month before finishing a disappointing eleventh behind Black ‘N’ Tough in the Programmed Property Service Handicap (1200m) at his last start.
Price has a high opinion of the Charge Forward mare and is hopeful she can run well on Saturday.
“Her form in the next couple of runs will dictate what we do with her in the next 12 months, whether we breed with her or race on,” Price told Racing Victoria.
“While Richard Jolly has done a superb job with her, we are hoping there is some good racing left in her.
“She’s an energetic, robust small-to-medium-size sprinting mare and hopefully she can do the job on raceday for us.”
Anagold has joined the Mick Price stable at the end of her most successful racing campaign that was highlighted by an upset victory in the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) in June.
The four-year-old mare won nearly $250,000 in prizemoney under the care of Queensland trainer Bryan Guy but connections felt there would be better races on offer for her in Melbourne.
“With her rating, she’s an open handicapper; I don’t think Queensland affords that type of mare a chance at the better prizemoney,” Price said.
“She’s settled in good, she worked super here on Saturday morning and is going great.
“If we could put away a couple of $80,000, $100,000 races with her, we’d be happy with that.”
Anagold is set to face a strong field in the Open Handicap (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday with Road Trippin’, Under The Hat, Testascana and Dayita all nominated for the event.
Betting markets for Saturday’s races will be released at bookmaker.com.au when the final fields are announced tomorrow.
