Endless Shadow Casts 2013 Hawkesbury Gold Cup Hopes

While yet to share his ambitions with the connections of Endless Shadow, Adelaide’s head trainer Tony McEvoy believes a good run from the class mare at home this Saturday could lead to a Hawkesbury Gold Cup 2013 assignment in Sydney next month.

McEvoy now trains out of two stables, one in South Australia and the other being a growing Sydney-based operation at Hawkesbury.

He already has a very nice hope for his new ‘home’ town cup with veteran Arena gelding Prince Of Capers heading towards the $150,000 Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) which will run for the first time earlier on August 22.

Prince Of Capers has their likely last Hawkesbury lead-up at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday taking on a crack field including last year’s Hawkesbury Gold Cup winner Darci Be Good in the $100,000 Listed Winter Stakes (1400m).

Another runner representing the dedicated horseman on Saturday that could join Prince Of Capers at Hawkesbury next month is then four-year-old Dane Shadow mare Endless Shadow.

She runs at Morphettville in Race 3, the $40,000 Blackwell Funerals Handicap (1550m), where she will face just six rivals and for which she’s currently installed as the $2.80 favourite at bookmaker.com.au.

A winner of five of her 23 starts to date Endless Shadow comes off a second at the track over a mile when encountering a Heavy (8) course which was just her fourth start for McEvoy since being transferred over from the Brisbane base of her former trainer Rob Heathcote.

McEvoy is happy with the progress he’s seen from her so far and is keen to step her up in class taking her to Sydney this season.

“If she runs as I expect on Saturday, I haven’t even discussed this with the owners of her, but it’s a race that may suit her as well,” McEvoy said of the Hawkesbury Gold Cup.

“It will be interesting to see how she runs on Saturday.”
