2013 Belmont Classic Odds – Top Two Hard to Split

Two last start winners are dominating the Belmont Classic 2013 odds for the WA feature this Saturday with class gelding Northpace and dual stakes winning filly Summah’s Touch battling for top spot.

Set to run as Race 7 at 4:02pm (local time), this year’s $80,000 Listed Belmont Classic (2200m) is shaping up as an intriguing two horse battle between two of the state’s top staying three-year-olds.

Currently winning the betting war as the $2.40 favourite in the Belmont Classic odds is the Fred Kersley-trained Northpace.

Drawn in gate five with Steven Parnham picking up the ride to replace the suspended William Pike, the son of Cape Cross vies for their fourth career win at start number six.

After a brave third in the Belmont Guineas two back, their first look at the mile and black type racing, Northpace showed nice improvement and a liking for more distance to win the Dayana Plate over 2000m at Belmont Park last start on July 6.

They blitzed stablemate and fellow Classic hopeful Go Tiger by three and a half lengths there and are poised for another ace performance when they step up to 2200m this weekend.

Hot on their heels in the Belmont Classic markets at $2.70 is then the Adam Durrant-trained Blackfriars filly Summah’s Touch.

She’s seen this distance, and further, back in the autumn at Ascot when fifth in the Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) and then second to the Natasha Stakes winner Moreish again this time in the Group 3 W.A. Oaks (2400m).

This time in Summah’s Touch has been the one to beat posting back-to-back black types at Belmont taking out the Guineas by one and a half lengths and then the Listed Belmont Oaks (2000m) last start by two lengths.

None of the other 11 three-year-olds in the Belmont Classic field are paying under double figures to score an upset over the top two.

There are however a number of others just over that could represent awesome value on the day including Kersley’s Dayana Plate runner-up Go Tiger ($10), their stablemate Credo ($14) coming off a win at the track over 2100m and another Blackfriars filly Elle On Friar ($15) drawn on the rails in barrier one who was second in the Belmont Oaks last start.
