Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
On Saturday one of the final black type races of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival will run at Doomben Racecourse with the Tattersall’s Mile 2013– betting tips featuring the Races.com.au team’s top three selections for which are listed right here.
Due to light up the track as Race 7 at 3:45pm (AEST) this year’s $80,000 Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) is shaping up as a top edition with a final field of 14 engaged.
Among those are last year’s winning Tattersall’s Mile Trifecta with Firebolt, Jetset Lad and Listen Son all back for a second shot.
Of those the shortest priced in the current 2013 Tattersall’s Mile betting markets are 59kg topweight Firebolt and Jetset Lad who pay $9.50 each and who are both drawn nicely in gates one and three respectively.
Listen Son meanwhile is hot on their heels paying $10 after drawing wide with barrier 12.
The Tattersall’s Mile odds meanwhile have Lucky Hussler as the $2.10 top fancy followed by the in-form Gosford galloper Loaded ($3.60) after their third win on the trot and second in Brisbane in just seven days.
So are these the horses you should be backing to win this weekend?
Or is there an upset Tattersall’s Tiara result waiting to happen with a longer priced hopeful such as perennial fourth placegetter Topping ($14) or Chris Munce’s mount Solebid ($17)?
1st – #6 Topping ($14)
Really nice value on this progressive Top Echelon six-year-old, the Tony Gollan-trained galloper desperate for a win after some really close calls this winter. Last three runs they’ve finished fourth firstly in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2100m) in the mud at Eagle Farm and then in the Toowoomba and Ipswich Cups. They come back to the mile here and should relish that having run a close second in a Listed feature last time they saw the distance in April. Get in well with 55kg, Larry Cassidy rides, plenty of upside for an upset.
2nd – #9 Lucky Hussler ($2.10)
Deserving favourite has been the model of consistency this prep. Last three runs all for new trainer David Kelly have been black type crackers including close third to Sizzling in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1400m). Last seen finishing second in the Sunshine Coast Guineas in the mud, mile on firmer ground here is going to suit. Actually gets a good gate this time too (barrier four) after jumping from nine, 10 and 14 of late – should be enough to get them right up there.
3rd – #10 Loaded ($3.60)
Grant Allard’s in-form hopeful is after their third on the trot aver two nice wins at Canterbury and then Eagle Farm over 1550m and 1500m. The most recent was Eagle Farm last Saturday which was meant to be their grand final. However they did that so easy (three lengths) trainer has decided to give this a crack. Handle the short back-up and they could go very close.
