2013 Tattersall’s Mile Final Field Released

The Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival may be over for another year but there is still black type racing left this season with the Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) set to be run at Doomben on Saturday.

The field is headlined by defending champion Firebolt who will be making his first race start since being transferred from the Sydney stable of Chris Waller to Kelso Wood in Queensland.

The seven-year-old gelding has had a great deal of success in Queensland, winning the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) in 2011 and finishing second behind Group 1 winner Solzhenitysn last year.

Firebolt hasn’t won since his victory in last year’s Tattersall’s Mile and has been disappointing since his return from a spell in April but the move to the stable of the veteran trainer could be the tonic he needs to return to the winners circle.

Following Firebolt in the Tattersall’s Mile field are veteran Green Birdie and Tony Gollan-trained Listen Son.

Green Birdie failed to impress during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and is still searching for his first win since his victory in the Group 1 Krisflyer International Sprint (1200m) in 2010.

Listen Son finished third in last year’s edition of the Tattersall’s Mile and has shown reasonable form this campaign.

The Big Jesse gelding finished third behind Belltone in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) and wasn’t disgraced when stepping up to a mile in the Listed Strawberry Road Handicap (1600m).

Loaded is the only last start winner in the field and has scored back-to-back wins at Canterbury and Eagle Farm.

The consistent five-year-old generally has three weeks between his runs but will back up quickly in his first ever race at Listed level.

Other notable acceptors include 2012 Queensland Cup winner Spechenka, British import Boogie Shoes and the consistent Topping who is coming off a fourth place finish in the Ipswich Cup (2150m).
