This Wednesday the first of the Grafton Cup Carnival majors will light up Grafton Racecourse with the 2013 Ramornie Handicap, final acceptances for which have now been taken.
Due to run as Race 7 at 3:41pm (AEST) on Wednesday’s Grafton race card the lucrative $150,000 Listed Crowe Horwath Ramornie Handicap (1200m) has drawn a final field of 15 gallopers.
Heading the field and weights is the defending champion Howmuchdoyouloveme who will carry a hefty 60.5kg from barrier 10 with Brenton Avdualla in the saddle.
Tina Cotiopoulos’ Written Tycoon four-year-old will be vying for their third win on the trot following two nice Eagle Farm runs for their new trainer during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
After putting two lengths on Delago Bolt in the Listed Lightning Handicap (1000m) from barrier 16 of 17 they carried 60kg from gate 11 of 11 to win the Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m).
The weights and gates are against them again on Wednesday but Howmuchdyouloveme is likely to still jump the top fancy in the markets, the Group 2 winner having had it much easier last Ramornie Day when carrying just 54kg to victory from the inside alley.
Following Howmuchdoyouloveme in the line-up are then the Desleigh Forster-trained Rubiton Stakes winner Adebisi (barrier eight) and Natalie McCall’s Sunshine Coast galloper River Lad (barrier three) both on 57.5kg.
Top Echelon five-year-old River Lad was last seen running a brave second to Howmuchdoyouloveme in the Healy Stakes when defeated only a long neck.
They missed a run in the Glasshouse Handicap on their home track a couple of weeks back however due to the wet weather but McCall remains confident of a good run at Grafton.
There are three other last start winners vying for back-to-back wins along with Howmuchdyouloveme meanwhile including the Toby Edmonds-trained Redoute’s Choice six-year-old War Ends drawn wide in gate 12 coming off a John Carlton Handicap win at Grafton from last week.
The others are then Wyong galloper Big Bonanza who relished a Heavy (10) Rosehill track at the start on the month, and the in-form Tom Pratt-trained Murwillumbah winner Private Express.
Other notable hopes then include Sue Grills’ Johannesburg seven-year-old Border Rebel with the inside alley which Howmuchdoyouloveme won from 12 months ago, another veteran in the Rob Heathcote-trained Gundy Son coming off a close Healy Stakes fourth and recent Chief De Beers winner Pentasia.
