After an all too easy Swan Hill victory last start Adelaide galloper Riziz has opened top of the odds for their trip to Flemington Racecourse in Saturday’s 2013 All Victorian Sprint Series Final.
There are 13 hopefuls engaged in this year’s $120,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) with the Ken Sweeney-trained Riziz drawn in gate nine with Paul Gatt to ride.
Gatt was aboard the progressive Zariz four-year-old for their last start victory in the Golden Topaz (1200m) on June 7 where they beat home Corvidae by three lengths.
While Saturday’s final is a notable step up in class the bookies are taking no chances with Riziz and have installed them as the $3 favourite in their All Victorian Sprint Series Final betting markets.
It will be the horse’s second trip to Victoria’s premier racecourse with Riziz having won the Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes (1200m) at the track this time last year.
Unlike the day’s other Listed feature, the Winter Championship Series Final where half the field are under double figures, there are just two other horses under $10 in the All Victorian Sprint Final odds.
At $6.50 on the second line of betting is the sole Group winner in the mix Sea Lord who has drawn ideally with barrier five.
The Street Cry five-year-old now prepared locally by Darwin expat Stephen Brown, Sea Lord is second-up for the season having run a brave fourth to Dee Bee Nine in the Slickpix Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley on June 15.
Winner of the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) back in January the gelding carried 58kg in the Slickpix and will have to be at their best to overcome the 60kg topweight on Saturday.
Third favourite at $7.50 is then the widely-drawn Mr Make Believe in gate 12 of 13.
Peter Moody’s Commands six-year-old was a first-up winner at Caulfield back in May but failed to back up when dead last in the Slickpix Handicap.
Still they are tipped to improve when they race at Flemington this weekend.
Other notable hopes at slightly longer odds that could represent great value then include Adelaide raider Belfast Boy ($10), the Colin & Cindy Alderson-trained Perturbo ($11) who was a close sixth in the Group 1 The Goodwood two back who is set to get a gun run from gate two, Will Clarken’s Slickpix Handicap winner Dee Bee Nine ($11) and Nicholls Court ($11).
