Open 2013 Ascot Handicap Betting – Top Three Hard To Split

Three sprinters have opened as equal favourites to win the Ascot Handicap 2013 on Queensland Cup Day at Eagle Farm on Saturday with the bookies unable to separate the dominate trio.

Running as Race 7 at 3:45pm (AEST) this year’s $80,000 Listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) features a final field of 13 with six of those under double figures in the current betting markets.

As it stands the first line of Ascot Handicap betting is shared by three $6.50 chances with:

  • Delago Bolt (James Lyons) – Delago Brom six-year-old has been in excellent form this prep running second to defending Ramornie Handicap winner Howmuchdoyoulove me in the Lightning Handicap before their Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes third to the same horse over this track and distance on June 22
  • Benny’s Buttons (Kelso Wood) – Locally-trained Refuse To Bend five-year-old was disappointing two back at Doomben when 14th in the Chief De Beers but their sixth in the WJ Healy was better than it looks on paper
  • Doubtfilly (Stuart Kendrick) – Sunshine Coast-based Not A Single Doubt filly was competitive at Ipswich running third in the Gai Waterhouse Classic before coming unstuck in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm beating home just one other runner in the 16-horse field, drops back in class and distance here so expect improvement

The other three under $10 are then the Rob Heathcote-trained QTC Cup third placed Griffon ($7), four-year-old Elusive Quality mare Emotional Circus ($8) and the 58kg topweight Listen Son ($8) from Tony Gollan’s Toowoomba stables.

There’s also value to be found further down the markets for punters that like to bet outside of the top half.

Some of the longer priced hopefuls that represent nice value in the Ascot Handicap odds then include Liam Birchley’s Exceed And Excel mare Liesele ($10) who was a good fifth in the WJ Healy, Heathcote’s Funtantes ($13) with the inside alley as she looks to bounce back from her dead last finish in the Healy, and last start winner over the 1200m here Alcancia ($14).
