Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Potential Crown Oaks contender Lady Lakshmi is the clear standout in the field for Saturday’s Listed 2013 Taj Rossi Series Final (1200m) at Flemington.
The rising three-year-old will attempt to add a fourth straight win and keep a flawless winter campaign in tact after some oustanding lead-up performances.
Prepared by David Brideoake and David Feek at Mornington, the daughter of Lonhro has barely put a foot wrong this winter and was last seen winning the Ken Cox Handicap on June 22.
If she continues her success on Saturday it is likely she will have an easy couple of weeks before being set for some Group 1 fillies’ races in the spring.
Saturday’s race will be the emerging galloper’s third shot at Listed level after failing to measure up in the first two starts of her career last spring.
Lady Lakshmi will carry the topweight of 59kg in a 10-horse field that includes Mick Price’s last-start runner-up Resistant.
Price will be hoping his charge can improve enough with the extra distance to make up the length he finished behind Lady Lakshmi last month.
Apart from Lady Lakshmi there are three other last-start winners in the field but all are facing a significant class rise.
John Sadler-trained gelding Purccolate was a convincing winner at Seymour last month while David Hayes’ pair Honey’s Steel Gold and Street Battle won races at Cranbourne and Werribee respectively.
Tony Vasil’s Testa Rossa colt The Bowler may have finished fifth in the Ken Cox Handicap but the prior to that singalled potential with two consecutive wins.
