Local horseman Gerald Ryan is praying the weather in Sydney remains clear and the Rosehill track firms in time for Dances On Stars run in the Civic Stakes 2013 this weekend.
There are sunny skies over the New South Wales’ capital today and with no more rain predicted over the next week Ryan is confident the Heavy (10) at Rosehill Gardens on Monday will be upgraded into the Slow – Dead range by Saturday.
Originally the Snitzel three-year-old was to run in the Listed Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at Caloundra on Saturday, subsequently won by the Mick Price-trained Eximius, but Ryan scratched Dances On Stars from the race due to the mud course.
Instead they have been saved for a hopefully much drier $100,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) where they will return home after racing exclusively in Queensland since late December.
Dances On Stars showed good first-up form in May when third to Academus in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).
A wide barrier 16 of 16 draw next up in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben however saw them finish towards the tail end of the field behind winner Platinum Kingdom.
They came their closest yet to their second black type win to add to the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) from April last year when less than half a length second to Sizzling in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 1.
Something went amiss next start however when they struggled to handle the course at Ipswich finishing 16 lengths away 13th behind Conservatorium in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m).
Back at Rosehill where they celebrated their last victory in a smart 2.5 length effort over 1350m in early December, Dances On Stars is tipped to bounce back in the Civic Stakes.
“We decided to bring him home and give him a go in this race,” Ryan said.
If the 10 early nominations are anything to go by they will be facing some quality competition too with other notable hopes in the mix including Group 1 performers Said Com and Praecido.
