Waller Dominates 2013 Civic Stakes Nominations

Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller is set to have a strong hand in Saturday’s Listed 2013 Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill after nominating three of his charges for the $100,000 sprint.

Waller’s trio form part of a 10-horse nominations list and heading the contingent is last-start winner Said Com.

A Group 1 runner-up in the 2012 Randwick Guineas, the four-year-old won his first race in 10 months on June 15 in the Sydney Markets Limited Handicap at Rosehill.

Also in good form for Waller is Disciple who narrowly missed out making it three wins on the trot when beaten on the line in a benchmark 85 race at Rosehill last month.

Waller’s third entrant is Nocturnelle who will be out to bounce back from a last-start 10th where she finished 11 lengths behind Said Com.

With a handicap rating of 104, Paul Messara-trained gelding Mic Mac is the highest rated horse nominated and showed promise when fourth in his last outing in the June Stakes. But injuries have meant the seven-year-old hasn’t won since he took out the Group 2 Memsie Stakes in August 2009.

Chasing a second straight win will be Gai Waterhouse-trained four-year-old Under The Sun who has won six times and placed another five from 16 trips to the races.

While local gallopers dominate nominations, Peter Moody’s Mr Make Believe and Queensland mare Whateverwhenever are set to add some interstate flavour to the race.

The Liam Birchley-trained Whateverwhenever has been below her best this campaign but proved herself at black-type level last spring when winning the Group 3 Moonga Stakes at Caulfield.

Other horses nominated for the Civic Stakes include Gerald Ryan-trained gelding Dances On Stars and 2012 Parramatta Cup winner Praecido.
