Glasshouse Handicap 2013 – Betting Tips

Queensland winter action heads to the Sunshine Coast this Saturday and one of the main attractions on the nine-race program is the Listed $175,000 2013 Glasshouse Handicap.

The race features 16 runners and it isn’t the easiest to figure out from a punting perspective, with a number of different form lines to consider as well as the growing possibility of a wet track.

Kelso Wood-trained four-year-old Someday heads betting at $4.60 but it looks an even race and other key chances include River Lad ($6) and defending champion Belltone ($7).

Some quality horses are hovering around the double-figure mark including Morning Captain ($11), Tokamak ($11) and last year’s runner-up Jetset Lad ($11).

First

#1 Belltone $7

Carries the topweight of 59kg and has a last-start 16th to his name but looks the best horse in the field. Will appreciate a drop back in grade from the Stradbroke into the kind of race that suits him perfectly, as proven when he won convincingly last year. Two starts back he won the Group 3 BRC Sprint and can return to that sort of form in easier company here. Is just as good in the wet as he is on the dry and has top Brisbane-based rider Damian Browne doing the steering.

Second

#13 Someday $4.40

Tipping a Kelso Wood quinella and the favourite has simply been racing without luck this campaign. Has finished in the minors in two recent black-type starts including last weekend when he showed he is more than capable of finishing quickly in wet ground. Will need a touch of luck from the outside barrier but if he gets that he will be right in the finish. Gets in on the minimum with 54kg.

Third

Tokamak $11

A touch surprised to see this progressive gelding at such a big price. Beat Someday in the Strawberry Road Handicap earlier this month and has won four times in his last seven trips to the races. Consistent as they come and proven in all conditions.
