They aren’t the a-graders but a decent field of three-year-olds will head to the Sunshine Coast on Saturday to compete for black-type honours in the Listed 2013 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m).
The $100,000 race will see a capacity 18-horse field step out on a likely rain-affected surface and current favourite is Victorian raider Eximius ($3.70).
The Mick Price-trained gelding takes strong form to the Sunshine Coast but is certainly no good thing. Challenging in the betting are in-form local Lucky Hussler ($4.20), Sydney gelding Dances On Stars ($4.80) and former Perth galloper Luke’s Luck ($6).
#13 Casino Card $14
Tipping an upset with this filly from Less Ross’ Eagle Farm stable. Drawn ideally in barrier six, the consistent galloper is on an upward spiral and chases a third straight win here. If the predicted rain eventuates that will definitely suit the daughter of Casino Prince who has proven herself ready for bigger things with six wins from 13 starts.
#2 Dances On Stars $4.80
Happy to forgive the last-start failure against the older horses with this usually consistent gelding. Wasn’t far behind Sizzling two starts back when second in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas and very rarely runs a bad race.
#1 Luke’s Luck $6
Now prepared by Kelly Schweida at Eagle Farm, this former Perth sprinter-miler struggled in his first couple of Queensland starts but is starting to hit his straps now. Has finished runner-up at his past two outings including two Casino Card at Ipswich on June 15.
