The next Perth Group race runs at Belmont Park this Saturday with a quality line-up of weight-for-age gallopers nominated for the Strickland Stakes 2013.
There were 15 early entries for this year’s edition of the $125,000 Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) including a number of Group 1 performers such as Playing God.
The Neville Parnham-trained five-year-old is a dual elite level winner but hasn’t won a race since the 2011 Kingston Town Classic.
Parnham has also nominated for his fellow Blackfriars stallion God Has Spoken who is another out to break a lengthy loosing spell with their last victory being the Group 2 CB Cox Stakes (2100m) nearly two years ago.
Both of Parnham’s horses come off unplaced runs in the Group 3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) the winner of which was Black Tycoon.
Justin Warwick’s veteran seven-year-old backs up again in the Strickland going up from a mile to the 2000m.
They have great form over the longer distance however having won five of their six starts over 1800 – 2100m back in the autumn including the Geraldton Cup (2100m) by an impressive five lengths over Moonlight Bay.
Other better chances also coming via a run in the Hyperion Stakes include the Grant Williams-trained Group 2 winner Ranger (3rd) and Dan Morton’s nicely-bred gelding Belora (4th).
Testa Rossa six-year-old Ranger has been very competitive in their three runs in this prep having run a first-up second to Power Princess in the Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m) in May and third to Kerrific in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) leading up to the Hyperion.
Belora meanwhile was second in the Belmont Sprint before their Hyperion Stakes fourth when beaten only a length, the Oratorio five-year-old racing over further than 1800m for the first time in their 33-start career to date if accepted for Saturday’s showdown.

Adam Durrant meanwhile will vie for back-to-back Strickland Stakes wins this year with Pentire seven-year-old Kincaple coming off a seventh in the Hyperion which was their first run in nearly a year and a half.
Durrant trained the Strickland Stakes quinella 12 months ago with Mr Moet and Chester Road the first two over the line, the winner going on to put in an outstanding effort later in the year winning the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m).
They were also second in the Kingston town Classic, won the CB Cox Stakes, were runner-up to Talent Show in the Perth Cup on New Year’s Day over the mile and a half and then travelled to Melbourne for the autumn.
Mr Moet was equally as impressive with their highlight run being a close third to super star colt All Too Hard in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in February.
