Moody’s Dissident Colt Caulfield Guineas 2013 Bound

While their name suggests otherwise Peter Moody’s up-and-coming colt Dissident is doing everything right ahead of their Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival return where they will be aimed at the 2013 Caulfield Guineas.

One of a number of promising gallopers back in work for Moody in Victoria, the Sebring two-year-old hasn’t raced since their seventh to Miracles Of Life in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield back in February.

That was Dissident’s third career run, their efforts in the autumn classic hampered by the extreme outside barrier (14 of 14) draw.

Leading into the Blue Diamond their form had been excellent including a win on debut in the Listed BD Preview (1000m) on Australia Day.

After that they were also a competitive third when defeated under half a length by the Preview runner-up Kuroshio in the Group 3 BD Prelude (1100m).

Moody is happy to have them back in work ahead of their three-year-old season where he hopes to have them ready for another shot against their own kind at Group 1 level believing Dissident to be a genuine mile hope for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 12.

Along with Dissident another juvenile back in work for Moody this week is Exceed And Excel colt Thermal Current.

Yet to break their maiden status Thermal Current had two runs in January, a second on debut down the Flemington straight followed by a third to their stablemate in the BD Preview.

They didn’t continue on from there however instead sent out for a spell to mature, their trainer believing they will be nicely suited to the sprint features of the spring.

Moody is looking at August for both Dissident and Thermal Current’s first-up runs with more concrete plans to be made along the way as they progress.

“Dissident looks like a nice Guineas type of horse whereas Thermal Current appears to be more of a sprinting type and I’d be surprised if he stretched to a mile,” Moody said.

“They’re both back in work here at Caulfield and they both look very well but we’ll just let them guide us along.”
