Enquare Snares Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes 2013 Trophy

A tradesman like performance from Jason McLachlan’s progressive filly Enquare has been rewarded with some black type with the Sunshine Coast-based juvenile winning the 2013 Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes at Eagle Farm’s Tattersall’s Tiara Day.

A nicely-bred daughter of Stratum, Enquare was made to work for her dinner today getting zero luck in the $100,000 Listed Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes (1400m).

She fell over pre-race and suffered some superficial scrapings and then after the jump got caught three deep without cover while Choisenegger, who would fade to finish last, set the pace.

Jockey Justin Stanley however didn’t panic and simply sat back waiting for the break to come in one of his rare trips to the big city.

McLachlan’s decision to stick with Stanley for the ride, the jockey having ridden Enquare for her two other good Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival runs when third to Missy Longstocking in the Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m) at Doomben and her second to the same horse in the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Day, was well rewarded with the duo outclassing their rivals.

“It was a very good win, nothing went right…she had a terrible run,” Stanley said after the race.

“She got caught three deep without cover, was a really tough win.

“She’s had a bit of class on her.

“She really relished the conditions…She’s done it tough today.

“She was just too good for them.”

Showing true grit and the makings of a genuine racehorse, Enquare’s will to win saw her explode over the final 50m once she got into the clear really attacking the line.

On the line Enquare had nearly two lengths to spare over Cannyzing who came from fourth upon settling up the outside into second with the well-backed last start Kilcoy winner Nicked And Court finishing off the trifecta having run third the enter way.

“She’s a good filly,” a proud McLachlan said.

“She just does everything right.

“She’s tough as nails, just a good filly.

“She just wants to be a racehorse…she’s like a good footballer, she just wants to do what she does.”

There’s a chance McLachlan will race Enquare, a $45,000 purchase from the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Cost Yearling Sales, once more before sending her out for a well-earned break.

“She’s a good horse and she’s going to come back a better filly after a bit of a break,” he said.

“I’ll just wait until the dust settles, I don’t’ want to take her too far.”

With Enquare now a stakes winner with over $106,000 in the bank thanks to today’s $64,000 winners’ cheque it’s liking punters haven’t seen the last of her with a possible interstate trip for the spring on the agenda.
