2013 W.J. Healy Stakes Results – Howmuchdoyouloveme Wins Again

The now Tina Cotiopoulos-trained Howmuchdoyouloveme cemented his spot as a sprinter to watch heading into the spring with back-to-back Brisbane wins thanks to a gutsy effort in the W.J. Healy Stakes 2013 at Eagle Farm Racecourse today.

The last on a bumper Tattersall’s Tiara Day race program, the $175,000 Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) was a hotly contested affair with the 60kg top-weight Howmuchdoyouloveme dominating proceedings from start to finish.

Formerly prepared Con Karakatsanis whose training license has now been revoked, the imposing four-year-old came off a brilliant two length effort in the Listed Lightning Handicap (1000m) where they carried 59.5kg to victory at Eagle Farm from barrier 16 of 17.

Today in the WJ Healy Stakes they had another double digit barrier as well as the top weight, neither of which slowed them down.

Ridden by the in-form Nash Rawiller still celebrating today’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara triumph for Chris Waller with Red Tracer, who took over from the suspended Brenton Avdulla, the Written Tycoon gelding worked hard to get to the front early and from there cruised along in the lead proving too hard to run down.

They held a big early lead after working around the field and held fighting right until the final stride.

Last year’s WJ Healy Stakes winner River Lad tried their hardest and briefly looked a winning chance but couldn’t catch the courageous Howmuchdoyouloveme who had a neck to spare over the brave runner-up on the line.

Rounding out the top three was then Delago Bolt up in the middle, James Lyons’ local Deagon-based runner having also run second in the Lighting Handicap.

“He’s a beautiful horse,” Rawiller said.

“You’ll notice 150 out he was in all sorts of trouble.

“He’s done a lot of work, a magnificent effort to pick himself up again.”

“Full credit to her (Cotiopoulos) she had this bloke bouncing out of his skin today.”

Cotiopoulos will now speak with the owners and if the horse pulls up well it will be onto the Grafton Cup Carnival next month to tackle the $150,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) on July 10, a race Howmuchdoyouloveme won by an impressive four lengths last year.

“He’s done everything right since the Lightning so he was well,” Cotiopoulos said.

“He’s a magnificent horse and he’s good to do anything with.

“He can just roll along and keep going so he’s hard to run him down when he does that.

“We’ll wait and see how he pulls up then I’ll have a chat to connections about the Ramornie and go from there.

“He’s a tough horse and that was a good tough horse today.”

Tattersall’s Tiara Day and the Group 1’s may be over for the season but now there’s the spring to look forward to.
