The cream of the nation’s staying crop may be preparing for spring but the Group 3 2013 Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday will still feature some reasonable gallopers.
From a punting perspective it is an intriguing race, with no clear favourite in what is set to be a closely run affair.
Some late week rain in Brisbane has seen money come for Rothera who now occupies the top line of the Tatt's Cup market at $4.
Second favourite at $4.60 is Shamardashing while Peter Moody’s import Ibicenco is a $5 chance.
#2 Rothera $4
With rain falling on Friday in Brisbane and Eagle Farm’s inability to hold any sort of water, it is definitely possible there will be a deteriorating track come race six on Saturday. Rothera’s runner-up finish to Quintessential in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap on a heavy track shows just how well he gets through the sloppy stuff and he faces an easier lot here. Dual Group 3 winner and just needs the right conditions to find his way back into the winner’s stall.
#6 Shamardashing $4.60
Drops back in class after a sound sixth in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup. Generally takes a while to find his best and is fifth-up here which suits. Has won at both distance and track and ideally drawn in barrier six.
#1 Ibicenco $5
Well short of the former British gallopers best distance but class should be enough to see him make his way into a top-three finish. Boasts a fourth to Kelinni in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes and a win in the Listed Sandown Cup. Had two lead-up runs over 1600m to prepare for this.
