It’s a bumper day at Eagle Farm on Saturday for the Tattersall’s Tiara which is the last Group 1 of the 2012-13 season and one of the key support races on the program is the Group 3 2013 Healy Stakes (1200m).
The $175,000 sprint will jump as the last event on the eight-race card and features a mixture of in-form locals and southern raiders.
Heading Healy Stakes betting betting is robust Sydney front-runner Howmuchdoyouloveme ($3.80) who is coming off a big win in the Lightning Handicap two weeks ago.
But with 60kg on his back he will have to be at the top of his game and is set to face stiff competition from the likes of Riva De Lago ($5.50), Griffon ($6.50) and Skytrain ($7).
#4 Riva De Lago $5.50
Have been impressed with the way this gelding has performed this preparation and looks well placed here. Three consecutive black-type seconds have him primed to join the winner’s circle. Comes from the stable of Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller who seems as if he could train a donkey to win at the moment and will be ridden by top Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman.
#8 Griffon $6.50
There’s been a bit of early money for Griffon which means punters haven’t missed his last few runs. Hasn’t had any luck in three winter starts but still yet to finish worse than fourth. Was flying home when a narrow third in the Group 2 QTC Cup last start and fit and primed fourth-up here.
#3 River Lad $11
The defending champion in the race and can again run a good race here. The 1200m at Eagle Farm is his absolute bread and butter, having three wins to his name at track and distance. Has 19 top-three finishes from 30 starts so looks well placed to bounce back from a last-start sixth.
