Sydney speedster Howmuchdoyouloveme has opened a clear favourite for his bid to keep an unbeaten Queensland record intact in the Group 3 2013 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The four-year-old is at $3.70 in the Healy Stakes betting market despite being asked to carry the topweight of 60kg.
A Group 2 winner at Melbourne’s spring carnival, the Written Tycoon gelding is coming off a dominant two-length Lightning Handicap win at Eagle Farm on June 8. That was his third win from three starts in Queensland after scoring twice in Brisbane last winter.
Top Sydney rider Nash Rawiller will jet in to fill the empty saddle left by the suspended Brenton Avdulla.
Occupying the second line of betting at $5.50 is Riva De Lago who has been in strong form for Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller.
The five-year-old hasn’t won since February but has produced three consecutive runner-up finishes in his past three outings including in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes in March.
Also producing good performances without winning this campaign is local sprinter Griffon. ($7.50). The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding has received little luck but was last seen running a close third in the QTC Cup.
He is the main chance of a Heathcote-trained trio that also includes Gundy Son ($13) and Funtantes ($15).
Also rated a single-figure chance is Skytrain ($8) who can be inconsistent but is a triple black-type winner.
The seven-year-old is coming off a seventh-place finish in the Luskin Star Stakes but was a runner-up the start before in the Hall Mark Stakes at Randwick.
Others contesting the Healy Stakes include Delago Bolt ($11), Royal Bender ($15) and Benny’s Buttons ($17).
