Brisbane Regulars Chase 2013 Rockhampton Cup Success – Field Named

A number of regular Brisbane performers will be floated north this week in an effort to chase the $100,000 in prizemoney available in the 2013 Rockhampton Cup (1600m).

A capacity 16-horse field plus one emergency have been included to contest the beef capital’s biggest race, with black-type winner Bid Spotter sharing the topweight of 59kg with Prussian Secret.

Bid Spotter resumed from a spell for Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds while Prussian Secret will be having his second start for new trainer Jared Whelow.

A seasoned traveller, Prussian Secret was third in last year’s Rockhampton Cup before going on to win the Mackay Cup.

There is no shortage of in-form contenders for the Rockhampton Cup, with six horses in the field registering last-start wins.

Among them are Solebid and Denwood who were both last seen winning at the Sunshine Coast.

Toowoomba gelding Equissential, a four-time city winner, arrives on the back of a Toowoomba Cup fifth. The five-year-old got through his final piece of serious work on Tuesday, impressing jockey Adam Best.

“Very happy with Equissential’s work this morning will run very well in Rockhampton Cup on Sat #cupsmine,” Best said on twitter.

Heading the local charge are Lyle Rowe’s in-form gelding Cannyclimb and defending champion Writer.

Cannyclimb will chase a third-straight win while Writer will be out to repeat last year’s result. Writer was one of the stars of North Queensland last year, also finishing fourth in the Mackay Cup and winning the Townsville Cup.

Others contesting the the Rockhampton Cup are Kelly Schweida-trained gelding What Happenedhenry and Lawrie Mayfield-Smith’s Danagaze.
