Victorian colt Shamexpress is at double-figure odds for his attempt to continue the success of Australian sprinters at Royal Ascot when he steps out in the Group 1 2013 King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) tonight.
The Danny O’Brien-trained three-year-old is rated a $10 chance in the King's Stand market in what will be his first race since winning the Newmarket Handicap in March.
The son of O’Reilly is chasing King’s Stand redemption for O’Brien who came close when Star Witness dashed home for second in 2011.
Due to jump as race two at 12:05am (AEST), favourite for the 1000m sprint is Mike De Kock’s star sprinter Shea Shea ($3.30).
The six-year-old triple Group 1 winner has produced outstanding lead-up form, winning back-to-back races in Dubai on his way to Royal Ascot.
Included in that was a convincing win in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint, the same race Australian mare Ortensia won last year.
Occupying the third line of betting at $5.50 is Britain’s best hope in the race, Reckless Abandon.
The Exchange Rate colt won the first five starts of his career as a two-year-old last year before resuming with a respectable first-up third in the Temple Stakes.
Runner-up in the Temple Stakes was John Gosden-trained entire Swiss Spirit who heads into the King’s Stand as a $9 chance.
Joining Shamexpress at $10 is Sole Power who backed up a Group 3 win at Newmarket last month with a fourth in the Temple Stakes.
The value runner at $13 could be Kingsgate Native who won the Temple Stakes and has won both the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes and the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes in a successful career.
