Dream Lifter To Rise To 2013 Belmont Guineas Challenge

In-form three-year-old Dream Lifter will face their first stakes assignment with trainer Paul Hunter confident they can handle the step up in class for Saturday’s Belmont Guineas 2013.

A winner of three of their five career starts so far the nicely-bred Danehill Dancer gelding has run in one black type before when a close second to Takanori in the Listed WA Breeders Classic (1400m) at Bunbury back in March.

That was their first loss following back-to-back wins at Albany and then Ascot in February, performances that showed Hunter he may have a genuine Group horse on his hands.

After a freshen-up the youngster returned at Belmont Park on May 25 and was third in a 1200m handicap before returning to the winners’ circle two weeks later at the same track, Dream Lifter relishing the step up to 1400m to take out a Benchmark 64 by one and a quarter lengths over their last start conqueror Hussy By Choice.

They run again vying for a Belmont Park double on Saturday with Hunter pleased with their progress ahead of the $80,000 Listed Belmont Guineas (1600m) where they see the mile for the first time.

“He pulled up well from his last run and worked well on Saturday morning,” Hunter said.

“He had all the favours (last start), but it was still a good effort.

“That run should bring him to his top and he’s improving as he’s going. It’s always hard when you go to the next level but I think he’s up to it.”

For the Belmont Guineas apprentice hoop Mitchell Pateman will return to the saddle having ridden Dream Lifter for their two runs this time in, Hunter sticking with them despite no claims for apprentices in the race.

Pateman has been performing just as well as his mount two with five city winners since his return from a knee injury last month.

While not quite as prestigious as the winter features that are running in Brisbane for Tattersall’s Tiara Day, the Belmont Guineas is still a nice race to enjoy a weekend punt on.
