The Ipswich Cup is undoubtedly the highlight on Saturday’s Ipswich program but not far off is the Listed 2013 Eye Liner Classic (1350m).
Competition for spots has been hot, with a capacity 16-horse field set to line up in what will jump as race eight at 3:40pm (AEST).
An even field of sprinters will contest the $175,000 event, with Gerald Ryan’s three-year-old Dances On Stars topping the market at $3.50.
Others to feature high in betting are Adelaide gelding Conservatorium ($6), 2012 runner-up Jetset Lad ($9) and the inconsistent but talented Mahisara ($9).
#1 Conservatorium $6'
Was seriously unlucky not to gain a start in the Stradbroke after he went down in a photo to Galah in the Group 2 QTC Cup. Arrives here for the consolation prize in hot form. Prior to the QTC Cup he was second at Group 1 level in The Goodwood at Morphetville and is primed to break through in easier grade here. Has to carry the topweight of 59kg but importantly he is drawn well in barrier four and will race in a forward position meaning he will not be relying on luck in running.
#15 Dances On Stars $3.50
Ultra consistent galloper who has really come on since a gelding operation. The second behind Sizzling in the Queensland Guineas shows his class and he should zip round Ipswich from barrier one with just 54kg to carry. Has finished in the top three eight times from 15 starts.
#6 Gundy Son $9.50
Likely to get back which means he’ll probably need luck in running but he’s been impressive in two runs this preparation. Ran a big second to Pentasia at Listed level last time and there is no reason why he can’t repeat that performance here.
