Peron Features in 2013 Gai Waterhouse Classic Field

Classy Patinack-owned filly Peron will get the chance to prove herself at stakes level when she lines up as part of a capacity field in the Listed 2013 Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich on Saturday.

It is believed the three-year-old is being aimed at Saturday week’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) but a strong performance this weekend could be required to ensure she has enough prizemoney to make the field.

From six starts to date, the daughter of Husson has won five times but has only collected $93,000 in prizemoney. Peron showed her class last month at Doomben when storming home to score a commanding win in the Novotel Brisbane Airport Class 6 Plate.

The turn of foot she demonstrated left plenty excited about her future prospects but she faces a significant rise in class this weekend.

Among her rivals in the Gai Waterhouse Classic will be southern raiders Bound To Blush, Classics and Sharnee Rose.

Sharnee Rose has been solid in two starts under new trainer Kris Lees and was a half-length second to Detours in the Bright Shadow Handicap on June 1.

Glenglogan Park Stakes runner-up Bound To Blush will be out to bounce back from a seventh-place Bright Shadow finish while Classics was fifth in the same race.

Joining Peron in heading the Queensland charge are consistent performers Hidden Kisses, Whateverwhenever, Skating On Ice and Cuddlesome.

A Group 3 win at Melbourne’s spring carnival will see Whateverwhenever carry the topweight of 59kg but the Liam Birchley-trained mare faces a tough ask to turn around her poor winter form to date.

Skating On Ice is coming off a win at the Gold Coast while Hidden Kisses will appreciate a drop back in class after running 11th in the Glenlogan Park Stakes.
