2013 Stradbroke Handicap Day Scratchings & Track Update

It’s sunny skies in Brisbane this morning with only a 50% chance of showers for the much anticipated Stradbroke Handicap Day 2013 and below we take a look at the early scratchings and latest track report for the Eagle Farm meeting.

Originally a large number of withdrawals were being predicted for the bumper nine-race program which features a triple shot of Group 1 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival action however the scratchings have been kept much lower due to the unlikelihood of a wet track.

As of 7:45am (AEST) this morning the course proper at Eagle Farm Racecourse had actually been upgraded from a Dead (5) to a Dead (4) making it near perfect conditions for Queensland’s richest day of racing.

Eagle Farm Racecourse Track Report

  • Rail Position: True
  • Track Condition: Dead (4)
  • Weather: Overcast

As mentioned there are three majors on the Stradbroke Handicap Day card today.

The first is the two-year-olds facing off in the $500,000 Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) which has no scratchings in the 13-horse field led by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Romantic Touch ($2.30).

There are then capacity 18-starter fields for the two draw cards running as races seven and eight with all of the five emergencies in both the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) and the $1.36 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) now officially withdrawn.
