Red Tracer Heads Dane Ripper Stakes 2013 Field

Chris Waller’s multiple Group winning mare Red Tracer may be the number one rated runner in Saturday’s 2013 Dane Ripper Stakes field on Stradbroke Handicap Day but she certainly has work to do after drawing wide with gate 18.

Set to run as Eagle Farm Race 5 at 1:45pm (AEST) this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) has, like so many of the features on the card, drawn a capacity field of hopefuls with 18 starters and five emergencies vying for some black type success before the end of another Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

To wear the number one saddlecloth is Dane Shadow mare Red Tracer who hasn’t raced since her disappointing 15th on a Heavy (10) Randwick track in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) on April 20.

For the Doncaster Red Tracer was drawn in the far outside barrier 18 of 18 and has again drawn this gate for the Dane Ripper.

If the emergencies fail to gain a run she will however come in three positions into 14, still wide for the 1400m showdown.

Before her Doncaster failure Red Tracer was in top form when a close second to the Guy Walter-trained Appearance in both the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) – form Waller is hoping she can return to this weekend.

Other notable runners to draw wide with their Dane Ripper Stakes barriers include the John O’Shea-trained Coolmore Classic fourth placed Steps In Time (21) coming off a failed run in the Doomben 10,000, Gai Waterhouse’s Dehere four-year-old Miss Stellabelle (22) who ran a close fifth beaten under a length in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) last Saturday, and Glen Boss’s mount Sharnee Rose (23) stepping up to Group company for the first time since her fourth in the last year’s Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) in Adelaide.

There are just two last start winners assured of a run in the race this year meanwhile with the Anthony Cummings-trained Arctic Flight (barrier 16) who narrowly took out the Listed Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone last month, and Rob Heathcote’s exciting local hope Fire Up Fifi (barrier eight).

Bradbury’s Luck grey Fire Up Fifi was the easy winner of last Saturday’s Listed Spear Chief Handicap (1500m) at the track, the five-year-old to appreciate racing against her own kind only here before tackling the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the end of the month.

Another three horses that won their last start are also among the first emergencies however and will be sweating on a scratching to gain a run and put themselves into contention.
