Hampden Stakes 2013 – Nominations Released

It may not be the biggest two-year-old race on Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap program but the Listed 2013 Hampden Stakes (1200m) is a strong support event.

Thirteen two-year-olds have been entered for the $100,000 sprint including classy local filly Missy Longstocking.

The Liam Birchley-trained galloper is expected to appreciate a drop back in distance after finishing ninth in the 1350m BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Prior to that the daughter of Sequalo won the Listed Lancaster Stakes and finished fourth in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic.

In her last campaign Missy Longstocking was a Group 3 winner in the BJ McLachlan Stakes and finished third in the Magic Millions Classic.

Taking solid results into the race is Vienna Queen who is yet to finish worse than fourth from four career starts. Proven in all conditions, the Tony Gollan-trained filly was last seen finishing fourth in the Lancaster Stakes.

High profile Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse has nominated one horse, with Cosmic Endeavour out to back up her big debut win at Canterbury last month.

Local trainer Kelso Wood has had a successful carnival so far and will be hoping that continues in the Hampden Stakes.

The Eagle Farm-based trainer has entered My Boy Brando who is coming off a last-start win at the Sunshine Coast.

Sunshine Coast trainer Jason McLachlan has nominated two runners, with Enquare out to build on her Lancaster Stakes third and Jet Down On It rising in grade after running second at the Sunshine Coast.

Other horses included in Hampden Stakes nominations include Toowoomba gelding Real Favoulous and Danny Bougoure’s debut winner Chilwero.
