Golden Rose Nominations 2013 Released

Nominations for the leading Sydney Spring Racing Carnival three-year-olds’ feature have now been taken with over 1350 horses making up the early 2013 Golden Rose nominations.

Set to run at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday September 14, the day Australia goes to the polls for the national election, the $1 million Group 1 De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose (1400m) went through its first round of entries this week.

Nominations for the classic, won last year by subsequent Doomben 10,000 winner Epaulette, closed on Tuesday (June 4) with the Australian Turf Club (ATC) currently listing 34 pages of nominees totaling over 1350.

All horses that were previously nominated for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), won by Overreach back in April, were also automatically entered for the Golden Rose at no extra cost accounting for the massive number of nominations.

Last year’s winning trainer Peter Snowden should again be well represented in the race nominating for an incredible 169 hopefuls, by far the most of any stable.

The next highest number of Golden Rose nominations then belongs to Sydney’s Gai Waterhouse with 96.

Among the other most prolific nominators were:

  • David Hayes (66)
  • Mick Price (57)
  • Peter Moody (51)
  • Anthony Cummings (43)
  • Chris Waller (38)
  • Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra (34)

Golden Rose 2013 first acceptances must be paid by connections at a cost of $500 by 3pm (AEST) on Tuesday July 9.

Late entries incurring a hefty $50,000 payment, which includes a final acceptance fee, are then open until 11am on Monday September 9.

The 2013 Golden Rose final field is then released on Tuesday September 10 with all stages to be reported on right here at
