Betting for the 2018 Group 1 $700,000 Altus...
A quality mix of imports and local stayers make up nominations for the Group 2 2013 Brisbane Cup (2400m) which will run as part of the bumper Stradbroke Handicap program at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
But despite a quality line up set to contest the $300,000 event, there is a notable a omission. A disappointing effort on Saturday’s Eagle Farm Cup means Peter Moody’s mare Lights Of Heaven will not return to defend her title.
However, the leading Victorian trainer does have a chance of repeating his success in the race, with Eagle Farm Cup third placegetter Voila Ici set to represent his stable.
Heading into the race off a big win is Bart Cummings’ unpredictable stayer Precedence. The seven-year-old has won just eight times from 50 starts but was clearly at the top of his game when storming to a one-length win in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup on May 25.
Out to turn the tables on Precedence will be David Vandyke’s import Less Is More and New Zealand mare Zennista.
Also heading into the staying test in good form is Quintessential who will chase a third straight Eagle Farm win.
A runner-up in the Queensland Derby on this day last year, the four-year-old will run on a seven-day back-up after taking out the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup.
Sam Kavnagh will be hoping his import Midsummer Sun can bounce back in his second Brisbane start. The former British stayer won his first two starts on Australian soil in Adelaide and Melbourne before disappointing when favourite in the Premier’s Cup.
Others nominated for the Brisbane Cup include Kiwi mare Miss Artistic, John O’Shea-trained gelding Lightinthenite and former Adelaide Cup winner Rialya.
