Academus Included in 2013 Daybreak Lover Nominations

With fierce competition for spots in the 2013  Stradbroke Handicap, Darley gelding Academus could be forced to race for a consolation prize in the Listed 2013 Daybreak Lover (1500m).

At 21st in the Stradbroke ballot, the son of Lonhro is expected to be the first or second emergency for the feature sprint and if he doesn’t gain a start it is likely he will run in the Daybreak Lover.

Darley are chasing back-to-back success in the race after Mental scored a commanding win last year.

Academus has shown strong form this winter, winning the Gold Coast Guineas first-up before finishing third in the Fred Best Classic and fourth in the Queensland Guineas.

Coming off a big Queensland Guineas run is Lucky Hussler who stormed down the outside to take third place behind Sizzling and Dances On Stars.

The Husson gelding was a Group 3 winner in front of Sizzling in last year’s Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate.

Out to bounce back from a disappointing Queensland Guineas performance will be Kiwi gelding Platinum Kingdom who won the Group 3 Fred Best Classic at Doomben last month.

There is a strong New Zealand presence in nominations for the $125,000 three-year-old race. Other Kiwis entered include Loves The Show, Oasis Rose and Waterford.

Also showing good form this campaign has been Chris Waller-trained gelding Boban who placed in both the Hawkesbury Guineas and the Fred Best Classic before struggling in the Queensland Guineas.

Other horses nominated for the Daybreak Lover include local hope Heza Jetsetter, Hawkesbury Guineas winner Limes and Scone Inglis Guineas third placegetter Chewychop.
