Sizzling Back to Winner’s Circle in 2013 Queensland Guineas

Classy Queensland colt Sizzling silenced his critics at Eagle Farm today, returning to the winner’s circle with a commanding win in the Group 2 2013 Queensland Guineas (1400m).

The three-year-old was unplaced at his two previous starts this campaign but bounced back to his best with the addition of blinkers in his Stradbroke Handicap lead-up.

Sizzling was still customarily slow out of the gates but responded terrifically when regular rider Chris Munce kicked him into gear rounding the bend, quickly assuming the lead from his rivals.

From there he showed the sprint that made him a juvenile star and powered through the line ahead of the fast-finishing Dances On Stars and Lucky Hussler.

Trainer Kelso Wood was delighted to see his stable star back in the winner’s circle and said the blinkers will remain on for his “grand final” in Saturday’s $1.36 million Stradbroke.

“The blinkers helped him. I’ve always been a bit reluctant to put them on him. But he’s a bit older now and a bit more relaxed,” Wood said.

“That should shut a few people up.”

Munce was also of the opinion that the blinkers helped the son of Snitzel return to his best and is looking forward to the main event in a week’s time.

“He really turned it on today. He was a lot more genuine,” Munce said.

“They’ve [blinkers] certainly done their job.

“Next week’s the grand final but I’m happy to take the preliminary and the grand final.”
