Heavy overnight rain in Victoria has forced the abandonment of today’s feature jumps meeting at Sandown.
The track was already waterlogged due to some late week rain and the overnight downpour left officials with no other option.
Racing Victoria Chief steward Terry Bailey inspected the track alongside Sandown track manager Tim Bailey this morning and declared the track unsafe for racing.
“Sandown had 56mm of rain up until 5.30am and it had continued to rain until I left the track at 8am. It’s unfortunate for all, but the track was simply too wet and unsafe for racing,” Bailey said.
Officials are yet to make any decision about the rescheduling of races, including the $100,000 Australian Hurdle and the $100,000 Australian Steeplechase.
Today’s Kilmore meeting has also been abandoned.
