Detours Goes Out A Winner in 2013 Bright Shadow Handicap

Darley mare Detours ended her career on a high today, taking out the Listed 2013 Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Trainer Peter Snowden said the four-year-old “has nothing left to prove” and is now likely to begin a career at stud.

“There’s every chance she’ll go to stud now, so she’s going out a winner” Snowden said.

“She’s a Group 3 winner, Group 2 placed. She’s won three stakes races and got the black type we need for breeding.”

Snowden paid tribute to the daughter of Ad Valorem who also took out the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast last month.

“She’s not the most brilliant horse we’ve ever had but gee she’s one of the most honest,” he said.

“She races to the best of her ability every start she has. That’s her forte, she just tries every time she goes out.”

In her swan song today, Detours capitalised from an ideal position in running, proving far too strong for placegetters Sharnee Rose and Dystopia in the straight.

If, as Snowden suspects, the consistent mare is retired, she will end her career at six wins and four minor placings from 16 starts.

Detours biggest career win came last spring when she took out the Group 3 Sportingbet Sprint at Caulfield.

While the winner won’t be there, it is likely that many of these horses will push on to the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm on June 22.

Earlier in the day Queensland mare Fire Up Fifi pressed her claims for a Tattersall’s Tiara berth with a convincing win in the Listed Spear Chief Handicap.
