2013 QTC Cup Won by Galah – Eagle Farm Results

Darley four-year-old Galah hadn’t seen the winner’s stall since October 2011 but he returned to form in a big way today in the Group 2 2013 QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm.

The future stallion prospect got caught wide on the track turning for home but it didn’t matter as he recovered, balanced up and produced a big sprint to defeat Conservatorium and Griffon in a tight finish.

It was the son of Redoute’s Choice first win since he took out the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes at the 2011 spring carnival.

Galah showed a clear appreciation for the soft track on offer and has now scored three of his five career wins on rain-affected surfaces.

Despite the QTC Cup offering Stradbroke exemption to the  winner, Galah will not head there as he was not among the acceptors on Wednesday.

Trainer Peter Snowden said Galah will next tackle the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on June 29.

“The Stradbroke wasn’t really a race we looked at with him,” Snowden said.

“I think the Glasshouse is the right race for him in three weeks time. Being a bit fresh is probably best with him.

“He was good today and that’s the main thing. Maybe this well get him back on track.”

Snowden said it is likely Darley will be represented only by Epaulette but is hopeful that Academus may also gain a start.

“I’ve got to talk to the team in England about Academus as I think he’s a red-hot chance,” Snowden said.
