Group 1-winning colt Shamexpress sizzled in a jump-out this morning but still remains at double-figure odds ahead of next month’s Group 1 2013 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The three-year-old Newmarket Handicap winner is listed on the fourth line of betting at $11 in the King's Stand Stakes betting market..
Shamexpress had his final Australian hit-out over 800m at his Flemington base this morning and clocked a slick 21.73 seconds for the final 400m.
Trainer Danny O’Brien is confident the son of O’Reilly is now at the top of his game ahead of his flight to the UK on Wednesday.
“He flies out Wednesday, which is 13 days before the race and the first week he’ll just find his feet and acclimatise. We’ll probably give him one solid gallop four or five days out from the King’s Stand,” O’Brien said.
“The horse has got to be really race fit when he gets on the plane and that (jumpout) will just bring him right to the mark.”
Among those Shamexpress will have to beat at Royal Ascot is South African speedster Shea Shea who heads betting at $3.80.
The Mike De Kock-trained gelding has won his last two starts including the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai.
Second favourite at $9 is lightly-raced British colt Reckless Abandon who has won five of six starts.
The other runner above Shamexpress in betting is $10 chance Sole Power who finished third in this race to Little Bridge last year.
Others in the King’s Stand Stakes market include 2008 Golden Jubilee winner Kingsgate Native ($12), consistent filly Mince ($14) and Pearl Secret ($14).
