The Phoneix Field Features 2013 JJ Atkins Hopes

Acceptances for the eight top races running at Eagle Farm this Saturday for Queensland Oaks Day have now been released including the day’s opening race, the $100,000 Listed Sirromet The Phoenix (1400m), where a number of JJ Atkins 2013 hopes will face off.

Kicking off the Oaks Day action at 11:40pm (AEST) this year’s The Phoenix field has drawn 11 promising two-year-olds, five of which are also among the first acceptances for Saturday week’s $400,000 Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m).

Two of the JJ Atkins-bound juveniles will by shooting for back-to-back wins this weekend with last start victors Sir Moments and Choisenegger.

Drawn wide in barrier 11, the Steven O’Dea-trained Choisir gelding Sir Moments broke their maiden status on May 18 at Doomben with a nice win in the Listed Dalrello Stakes (1200m).

Fellow Choisir two-year-old Choisenegger meanwhile was very impressive in the wet at the home track on the Sunshine Coast on May 12 with the Jason McLachlan-trained colt putting three lengths on their closest rival over 1400m relishing the Heavy (8) course.

The other Phoenix entries still in the mix for the Group 1 on Stradbroke Handicap Day are then Dalrello Stakes runner-up El Toranado, the Paul Messara-trained Choisir colt Chosen Idol who was third in that same lead-up, and the Liam Birchely-trained Flying Spur filly Locomotion.

Other notable hopes then include Gold Coast galloper Cannyzing drawn ideally in gate two and coming off a first-up win at Murwillumbah, Kelly Schweida’s local gelding L’Entrecote coming off a win on debut at the Sunshine Coast and John Thompson’s last start Gold Coast winner All Things In Time.
