Acceptances for the eight top races running at Eagle Farm this Saturday for Queensland Oaks Day have now been released including the day’s opening race, the $100,000 Listed Sirromet The Phoenix (1400m), where a number of JJ Atkins 2013 hopes will face off.

Kicking off the Oaks Day action at 11:40pm (AEST) this year’s The Phoenix field has drawn 11 promising two-year-olds, five of which are also among the first acceptances for Saturday week’s $400,000 Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m).

Two of the JJ Atkins-bound juveniles will by shooting for back-to-back wins this weekend with last start victors Sir Moments and Choisenegger.

Drawn wide in barrier 11, the Steven O’Dea-trained Choisir gelding Sir Moments broke their maiden status on May 18 at Doomben with a nice win in the Listed Dalrello Stakes (1200m).

Fellow Choisir two-year-old Choisenegger meanwhile was very impressive in the wet at the home track on the Sunshine Coast on May 12 with the Jason McLachlan-trained colt putting three lengths on their closest rival over 1400m relishing the Heavy (8) course.

The other Phoenix entries still in the mix for the Group 1 on Stradbroke Handicap Day are then Dalrello Stakes runner-up El Toranado, the Paul Messara-trained Choisir colt Chosen Idol who was third in that same lead-up, and the Liam Birchely-trained Flying Spur filly Locomotion.

Other notable hopes then include Gold Coast galloper Cannyzing drawn ideally in gate two and coming off a first-up win at Murwillumbah, Kelly Schweida’s local gelding L’Entrecote coming off a win on debut at the Sunshine Coast and John Thompson’s last start Gold Coast winner All Things In Time.
