Small Field for Lights Of Heaven to Beat in 2013 Eagle Farm Cup

Peter Moody’s staying mare Lights Of Heaven will have to defeat just five rivals if she is to claim back-to-back titles in the Group 2 2013 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) this Saturday.

The five-year-old produced a dominant three-length win in the $250,000 race last year before backing up to win the Brisbane Cup by the same margin a week later.

Last year the Caulfield Cup third placegetter arrived on the back of a Doomben Cup second but this year she will have the bounce back from a fifth-place finish.

However, the only horse who beat her in the Doomben Cup that will run in Saturday’s race is stablemate Manighar.

The import’s Doomben Cup fourth was a promising return to form after the triple Group 1 winner struggled throughout his Sydney autumn campaign.

Brad Rawiller was the jockey aboard in the Doomben Cup and he told AAP he is excited to again partner the grey seven-year-old.

“I reckon he’s starting to get into good form now and I’m looking forward to getting him back on a winning track,” Rawiller said.

“Over the 2200 metres on Saturday I can’t wait.”

Moody will have three runners in the Eagle Farm Cup, with fellow grey import Voila Ici also lining up.

Taking on Moody’s trio is Kiwi mare Quintessential who seems to find her best in the Queensland winter. The four-year-old won the Queensland Oaks last year and is coming off a win in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap.

Also heading into the Eagle Farm Cup off a win is Moriarty who won the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup at Rosehill on May 11.

Rounding out the small field is four-year-old entire Zabeelionaire who finished last in the Doomben Cup.
