Bumper 2013 Queensland Guineas Field Released

A crack line-up of middle distance three-year-olds has been accepted for the Queensland Guineas 2013 this Saturday, the event one of the major support races of Eagle Farm’s Queensland Oaks Day.

Due to run as Eagle Farm Race 6 at 3:00pm (AEST), this year’s $350,000 Group 2 Sky Racing Queensland Guineas (1400m) features a capacity field of 18 starters plus four emergencies.

Heading the field with the No. 1 saddlecloth is the Kelso Wood-trained local Snitzel colt Sizzling looking to return to form after a disappointing start to the season.

A dual Group 2 winner and Group 1 runner-up last Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, Sizzling was last seen running sixth to Platinum Kingdom in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben on May 18 and will need to improve on that run facing a similar field of rivals over a similar distance this weekend.

Fred Best Classic winner Platinum Kingdom is also backing up on Saturday, the Kiwi-based Magnus gelding having thrived down under this prep and now looking at their third win from four starts.

Also coming off good performances in the Fred Best are Chris Waller’s classy runner-up Boban, and the Peter Snowden-trained duo of Academus (3rd) and Complicate (4th).

Lonhro gelding Academus is sure to start one of the top fancies in the Queensland Guineas odds based on their recent form, the Group 2 WA Guineas winner over the Ascot mile last November having won the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) first-up before their Fred Best third.

Complicate meanwhile is also a stakes winner and had a wide gate in the Fred Best (14 of 16) so is likely to appreciate barrier five on Saturday, Snowden labeling the Commands gelding as the better of his two Guineas starters when it comes to the following week’s $1.36 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).

Other classy types in the predominantly interstate dominated Queensland Guineas field then include the Bart Cummings-trained Scone Inglis Guineas runner-up Lunar Rise and Mick Price’s More Than Ready colt Al Aneed looking to bounce back after their Fred Best 14th.

There are then three fillies that don’t need a scratching to get into the race with the Anthony Cummings-trained Diamond Earth (20) coming off a Listed Scone win, last start Eagle Farm winner Doubtfilly (21) and Saturn Rock (17) who have all drawn wide for their clash against the boys.
