The countdown to the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival’s most prestigious race is nearly over, with the $1.36 million 2013 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) to take place on June 8 at Eagle Farm.
Three-year-olds currently dominate the Stradbroke Handicap betting market which could change considerably after tomorrow’s Doomben 10,000.
The soon-to-be retired Your Song, was mighty impressive when winning the BTC Cup and and as such is now the clear Stradbroke favourite at $4.20.
He gets the chance to really cement his position as the Stradbroke top elect in the Doomben 10,000.
Also lining up in the Doomben 10,000 are fellow colts Epaulette and Better Than Ready who occupy the second and third lines in Stradbroke betting at $7.50 and $8 respectively.
The only other runner under double figures is Buffering who is considered a $9 chance.
The five-year-old lugged the topweight to Stradbroke runner-up honours last year and it is believed the increased $1 million winner’s cheque could see him return for another crack.
Kelso Wood always seems to have his team firing at the winter carnival and he has two key Stradbroke chances, with BRC Sprint winner Belltone rated a $10 proposition and three-year-old colt Sizzling at $12.
Joining Sizzling at the $12 mark are Sydney colt Boban and Robert Heathcote’s Group 1 winner Solzhenitysn.
The highest rated female in betting is Sydney mare Arinosa ($13). The Chris Waller-trained grey will get a chance to improve her Stradbroke claims on Saturday when she starts a clear favourite in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes.
Also high up in the early Stradbroke market are Academus ($13), Rain Affair ($14) and Mahisara ($17).
