2013 Doomben 10,000 Betting Update – Punters Singing for Rain

With Wednesday’s heavy rainfall in Brisbane and the chance of more to come Friday there’s been a big splurge from the punters on BTC Cup winning mudlark Your Song who is hot favourite to win the 2013 Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.

Better Than Ready

Anthony Cummings’ Fastnet Rock colt made a mess of their rivals and relished a Heavy (9) Eagle Farm track first-up on May 11 to win the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) by a blistering five lengths.

They will look to reproduce that effort his weekend in the $650,000 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) where they will face a similar field of competitors including BTC Cup runner-up Rain Affair, third placed Better Than Ready and fourth over the line Buffering.

It is Your Song the punters want however and the youngster sits top of the Doomben 10,000 odds at a firming price of $2.70 – in from $3 earlier in the week.

That short price is despite the fact the favourite must overcome the extreme outside barrier 15 of 15, step up to 1350m, run at Doomben for the first time and pull up from such an explosive resuming win which can often take a lot out of a fresh young horse.

There has also been a tickle for Joe Pride’s BTC Cup runner-up Rain Affair in from $7.50 to $7.

Coming off four Group 1 top four finishes this prep, Rain Affair is all class and is gearing up to finally break their elite level maiden.

While Your Song rushed past them in the BTC Cup finish Rain Affair is also a mudlark and on Slow track is undefeated (4-4-0-0) so a bit of rain wouldn’t hurt their chances.

Others to come in slightly in their Doomben 10,000 odds then include the defending champ Sea Siren ($18 into $17), the fellow John O’Shea-trained mare Steps In Time ($14 into $12) who has a nice barrier six draw and Better Than Ready who has been smashed in from $14 to $11.

The Kelly Schweida-trained local Better Than Ready was an eye-catching third in the BTC Cup and has been well backed since coming up with barrier one for Saturday which is the most successful Doomben 10,000 barrier in history.
