Victorian colt Shamexpress remains on track for his international expedition to Royal Ascot, with the Group 1 2013 King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) set to take place on June 18.
The Danny O’Brien-trained three-year-old will have a jump-out at his Flemington base on Friday and a further jump-out the following week to polish him off for the trip.
Shamexpress is due to depart Australia on June 5 and O’Brien is confident that everything is in place to chase international success.
“You have them ready to race when they get on the plane and then you don’t have to do much when you get there,” O’Brien told AAP.
“Everything has been spot on.”
Shamexpress earned his trip to Royal Ascot in March when flying down the Flemington straight to claim his first Group 1 in the Newmarket Handicap.
Melbourne jockey Craig Newitt was aboard for the Newmarket and he will accompany Shamexpress at Royal Ascot.
Newitt knows what it takes to win the King’s Stand Stakes, having ridden classy sprinter Miss Andretti to victory in the race in 2007.
The quality hoop will ride Shamexpress in Friday’s jump-out and said he looks a “bigger and stronger” colt than he did in the Newmarket.
O’Brien also has experience in the King’s Stand, having travelled Star Witness and Glamour Puss.
While the Flemington trainer is yet to win in the UK, Star Witness finished second in the King’s Stand Stakes and third in the Golden Jubilee Stakes in 2011.
Shamexpress is currently the third favourite to win the King’s Stand Stakes at $9, with South African sprinter Shea Shea the $3.60 favourite ahead of Sole Power ($6.50).
