Moody’s Quest for Upset Doomben 10,000 Result 2013

Premier Victorian horseman Peter Moody enjoyed a big Stradbroke Handicap upset last season with Mid Summer Music and on Saturday he will shoot for another boilover in another Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival Group 1 with My Quest For Peace lining up in the 2013 Doomben 10,000.

Having their first run for Moody after being previously prepared in Europe by Luca Cumani, imported Galileo stallion My Quest For Peace is set to run for the first time since their 10th to Green Moon in the Melbourne Cup last spring.

Bought over for a dual Cups bid that also produced a close fifth when beaten 1.6 lengths by Dunaden in the Caulfield Cup, the exciting stayer is again heading towards the ‘race that stops a nation’ with the $6.2 million Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) on the agenda in November for which they are rated a $31 chance in the latest bookmaker.com.au markets.

But first they will look to secure some Australian black type starting with Saturday’s $650,000 Group 1 Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

A winner of five of their 12 starts to date My Quest For Peace has never won over less than 2011m and the Doomben 10,000 will be their shortest-distanced start to date.

Moody however isn’t fazed and believes first-up over the distance they have what it takes to give the favourites including BTC Cup winner Your Song and Rob Heathcote’s perennial Group 1 placegetter Buffering a run for their money.

“He’s a really nice horse. He’s certainly a stayer but I think he might be able to pull one out fresh over the sprint trip,” Moody said.

“There are no races anywhere else for him at this time of year.

“I just wanted to give him a run or two and tick him over before the spring carnival, but I do think he will run very well fresh.”

My Quest For Peace certainly has an imposing record when resuming winning two and placing top three in their other three of five first-up runs, but the bookie still need convincing as they sit as a $51 outsider in the pre-field Doomben 10,000 betting markets.
