Favourite On Song for 2013 Doomben 10,000

Pre-post favourite for this Saturday’s 2013 Doomben 10,000 in Queensland, Your Song is ticking all the boxes according to trainer Anthony Cummings as the talented colt vies for a Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival Group 1 double.

The consistent Fastnet Rock three-year-old soared to the top of the markets for the $650,000 Group 1 Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 (1350m) when they resumed off a seven months spell at Eagle Farm earlier in the month to score an emphatic five length victory over Rain Affair in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m).

That was their third win from seven career runs to date and while it was run on a Heavy (9) track, Cummings is confident Your Song can reproduced their form on firmer ground at Doomben Racecourse this weekend.

The bookies agree and have Your Song installed at around $2.50 in the latest Doomben 10,000 odds.

Your Song showed Cummings they were ready for a big run when they completed their final big gallop on Tuesday morning working with blinkers which won’t be part of their gear on race day.

“They just make him concentrate a bit better and he actually trialled in them in Sydney,” Cummings said

“They come off on race day though. I think they contributed to his performance in the Golden Rose (when eight to Epaulette last September).

“It’s a bit hard to get a gauge on the work because I’m not clocking the others, but he looked sharp to my eye and he will be hard to beat on Saturday.”

There are still officially 26 gallopers entered for the Doomben 10,000 with the next best fancied being Rob Heathcote’s stable star Buffering out to improve on their BTC Cup fourth, BTC Cup runner-up Rain Affair and Peter Snowden’s Golden Rose winner Epaulette.

Buffering was one of a number of other Doomben 10,000 hopefuls that worked out this morning with jockey Damian Browne confident they are in better form than they were for the BTC Cup which was the Mossman five-year-olds’ 14th attempt at Group 1 level.

“You just have to put a line through that day. He was excellent this morning and I’m sure you will see the real one on Saturday,” Browne said.

The final 2013 Doomben Cup field and barriers will be finalised on Wednesday and published right here at Races.com.au.
