Belltone Wins 2013 BRC Sprint – Doomben Race 8 Results

Kelso Wood-trained sprinter Belltone returned to form at Doomben today with a strong win in the Group 3 2013 BRC Sprint (1350m).

After stable star Sizzling disappointed earlier in the day, it was a brilliant finish to the day for the successful pairing of Kelso Wood and jockey Chris Munce.

Settling in a perfect spot just behind the leaders after jumping from barrier six, Belltone emerged in the straight with a big sprint to beat home Mahisara and Listen Son.

It was Belltone’s first win since last winter but he showed he is clearly back to his best and will now be set for the Group 1 2013 Stradbroke Handicap.

“He’s back to his best which is good to see, he’s a marvellous old horse,” Wood said.

“We’ll head to the Stradbroke.”

Belltone was one of the most consistent horses last winter, taking out two Listed races and finishing second in the QTC Cup.

It was a feeling of relief for Munce who had failed to get a result from six previous rides in the day.

“It’s been a long day up until now so it was good to end on a winner,” Munce said.

“He’s a terrific old horse Belltone. He’s got a lot of good people behind him so it’s good for him to get a result like this.”
