2013 Fred Best Classic Betting Tips

Another huge day of Brisbane Winter Carnival racing on Saturday at Doomben and one of the top races is the Group 3 2013 Fred Best Classic (1350m).

Al Aneed is the Races.com.au pick to win the Fred Best Classic. Photo: Race Horse Photos Australia.

Featuring some classy three-year-olds, the Fred Best is often used as a lead-up to bigger events such as the Queensland Guineas and the Stradbroke Handicap.

Heading the market narrowly is Gold Coast Guineas winner Academus ($3.30) who is slightly ahead of local hope Sizzling ($3.50).

Just behind the pair and the only other runner under double figures is $6 chance Al Aneed who is coming off a Gold Coast Guineas second.

Others featuring in the Fred Best betting market are market mover Platinum Kingdom ($15), consistent Sydney gelding Dances On Stars and Darley’s Complicate ($15).

Not quite sure who to back in this exciting three-year-old sprint? Then keep reading as the Races.com.au form experts have been hard at work to bring to your our very best selections.

The Winner

#13 Al Aneed $6

Coming off a runner-up finish in the Gold Coast Guineas but with a bit more luck he would have won. Was storming home which suggests the extra distance this week should suit and he’ll also take fitness improvement out of the run. A slightly awkward draw in barrier 12 but should get back in the field and will be running on.

Second

#4 Academus $3.30

Was outstanding with his first-up win and will only improve with the extra distance. Won over 1600m in the WA Guineas last November which suggests he’ll appreciate a bit more ground. Darley always take a strong team to Brisbane and this gelding looks like one of their best this winter.

Third

#18 Oasis Rose $10

Kiwi filly having her first start in Australia. Was sixth first-up at home but her form suggests she goes better with a run under her belt. The big plus on her resume is a Group 1 second to Sacred Falls in the NZ 2000 Guineas in November. Sacred Falls has of course since gone out and won the Doncaster.
